Stories of Taos Pueblo
John Suazo has written a book, Stories of Taos Pueblo. In this video he shares some of the history and tales of the Pueblo; stories that have never been told. He is more popularly known as a world famous stone sculptor. Back in the 1970's, he began to tape record many of the tribes elders telling stories in their language, Tiwa, and preserving historical events. John gives outsiders an inside view of what it was like being raised in the Pueblo. . . . It was fun to make this video. John has been my friend for decades and he is one of the nicest people I know. Check out some of his stone carvings and visit him in his shop in the Pueblo. The shop where he was raised is small and cozy. I real...

It’s very similar to what I hear in Chicano communities in the sense that there are some incorrect structures and fake words due to the people being quite distant from real Spanish. For example: “Fui nacido en” is incorrect. “Nací en” is the correct form. Is this truly a dialect? I’d argue that it’s not a dialect but more so an established attempt at speaking Spanish to the best of their ability. Very intriguing phenomenon, absolutely.

@@cassie1dueces It has some similarities with it, the andaluca dialect comes form Andalucia Spain, one of its characteristics is the aspiration of the S at the end of a syllable when it's not followed by another vowel. For instance if a person says ¿Cómo estás? both S would sound like an H sound in English "Ehtah", this is not as common in Mexico as it is in countries in the caribbean that received a heavy migration from that particular region of Spain or from the Canary Islands which some linguists consider an evolution of the Andaluca dialect. It definitely sounds very Mexican don't think I'm saying otherwise, any native Spanish speaker that has been in Mexico would agree but there's also that distinction.

Mexican music is Spanish music because it's in Spanish language. Anyway, you're wrong. In the min 2:54 he exactly said that he likes "música chicana". Weirdly, they have translated it in the subtitles as "I like Spanish music. Any kind of Spanish music". He said "Chicana", not Mexican tough.

La música es en el Idioma español, pero no es música española, la música española es de España, y la música chicana es de hijos nacidos en Estados Unidos pero de padres mexicanos, y la canción que el señor dijo que más le gusta de mañanitas a mi madre no es nada chicana, esta está cantada por los tigres del norte y ellos no cantan música chicana, ellos tocan música norteña.

Of course New Mexicans still listen to Mexican music. Even Criollos after La Conquista embraced the “new world culture “, they weren’t separatists only sticking to everything from Spain alone 🙈
